How we got started

In preparation for the city’s centennial celebration in 2036, a proposal for the establishment of a Des Peres Historical Society to function as a non-profit organization was presented at the March 25, 2024, meeting of the Des Peres Board of Aldermen: Des Peres Historical Society Presentation, Board of Aldermen Meeting, March 25, 2024

The Board expressed interest in the idea and asked for continued communication as the project proceeded. On January12, 2025, an informational meeting was held at the Lodge of Des Peres with over 20 attendees.  In addition to the Steering Committee, an Acquisitions & Collections Committee and an Oral History Committee were formed with an initial set of volunteers (additional volunteers are always welcome!) The State of Missouri recognized the Des Peres Historical Society as a Missouri non-profit corporation in early 2025.  As of March 27, 2025, the IRS recognized the Des Peres Historical Society as a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation. To comply with non-profit regulations several members of the steering committee agreed to serve on the initial Board of Directors.
